Overtime Pay Formulas

Calculate Overtime Pay

OT Pay = Hourly Rate × OT Multiplier × OT Hours

Example: $20/hr × 1.5 × 10 hours = $300 overtime pay

Calculate Total Weekly Pay

Total = (Reg Hours × Rate) + (OT Hours × Rate × Mult)

Example: (40 × $20) + (10 × $20 × 1.5) = $1,100

Calculate Hourly Rate from Total

Rate = Total ÷ (Reg Hours + OT Hours × Mult)

Example: $1,100 ÷ (40 + 10 × 1.5) = $20/hr

Calculate Effective Hourly Rate

Effective Rate = Total Pay ÷ Total Hours Worked

Example: $1,100 ÷ 50 hours = $22/hr effective rate
